Classroom Reservations

To reserve a technology classroom for a regularly scheduled course, contact a staff assistant in your academic department who has scheduling privileges. It may be helpful to decide your technology needs before contacting your department. For example, would you prefer to use a Macintosh or a Windows computer? Would you like your students to have access to a computer during class?  Do you want each student to have their own computer, or can it be shared?

Reserving a technology classroom for an event other than a scheduled course can also be done by a staff assistant within your department by submitting an Event Room Request Form (forty-eight-hour notice is required).

Student use

Student groups at Penn State can schedule and use technology classrooms provided appropriate steps have been taken. All student groups must schedule rooms through the Student Activities Office in 125D HUB and sign a terms-of-use agreement.  In order to use the technology, an officer of the group should schedule and attend an orientation session with Technology Classroom Support. A 48-hour notice is required to schedule orientations, and requests must be submitted at the link above.  Once the request has been received, Tech Class will then proceed with scheduling an orientation based on room availability and provide confirmation to the person making the request.

Please note, if you use a room multiple times during the semester, or multiple rooms during a semester, you only need to attend one orientation session as our rooms have standardized equipment. If you plan to use the auditorium in Thomas 100, special conditions may apply.

Reserving Room 101 Thomas Building

100 Thomas Building is a unique classroom. This 726-seat auditorium contains sophisticated multimedia and computer technology to support the instruction of large classes. The Office of the University Registrar heavily books it for resident instruction courses; however, University and student organizations may schedule the auditorium for instructional support and non-instructional events. Student organizations should contact the Student Activities Office in 125D HUB to reserve 100 Thomas for events. Colleges and departments wanting to schedule the room for instructional support activities should use the Event Room Request Form. Be sure to schedule a one-on-one Orientation Session to learn about its unique capabilities. Having better knowledge and experience with the technology will improve your experience.

Requirements

Because it is such a unique and sophisticated facility, special requirements for use of 100 Thomas are necessary:

Orientation & Training

As more diverse and sophisticated technologies are provided in 100 Thomas, all users of 100 Thomas are required to attend an Orientation Session.

Presence of a Technician

To avoid and troubleshoot any problems that might occur with the systems in 100 Thomas, the use of the auditorium may require the presence of a technician. A technician is available during normal working hours for credit-bearing instruction. Events occurring in the auditorium other than credit instruction may require the assignment of a technician, which will be billed to the sponsoring department or organization. Please contact 814-865-5400 to determine if your event will need a technician.

Auditorium Preparation & Follow-Up

Some uses of 100 Thomas require special preparation and follow-up. For instance, located at the front of the auditorium are a podium and a lab demonstration table. Some classes or events in the auditorium might require the movement of the demo table. Users of the auditorium may never move these room assets!

The lab demonstration table is moved only by the Office of the Physical Plant. Auditorium users must arrange the movement of the lab demonstration table by completing an Area Services Work Request Form (http://www.opp.psu.edu/). Availability of the auditorium for a window of time before and after its use is required for the lab demonstration table movement. Because the movement of the lab demonstration table requires the involvement of skilled trade workers, Auditorium users are advised to make their requests well in advance of the anticipated use of the auditorium.

Cost

Depending on the auditorium configuration required by the user, additional auditorium preparation and follow-up might be necessary.

No cost is associated with use of 100 Thomas for credit-bearing instruction.

Events Other Than Instruction:

Costs are possible for technicians, equipment, and supplies. Please contact MediaTech for further information.

Costs related to special room set-ups are available from the Office of the Physical Plant.

Damages: The person requesting the use of 100 Thomas will receive billing for the assessment and repair of any damage attributed to auditorium use. Costs could also accrue for use of an alternative venue while damages are repaired. Repairs are specified, designed, and priced entirely by the organization conducting the repairs.

Some activities may require the presence of a University Police officer.
